Fear of Missing Out: Avoiding the 'Urgent Sale' Scam
Published on Dec 23, 2025 • 5 min read
Scammers rely on one powerful emotion: FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out). You will hear lines like, "Buda, niko na watu wengine wanakuja kesho asubuhi. Decide leo." (I have other people coming tomorrow, decide today).
This pressure is carefully designed to make you skip due diligence. They know the gearbox is failing or the papers are fake, and they want you to commit before you inspect. Rule of thumb: A genuine car will wait for a genuine buyer. If they won't let you inspect it because "time is running out" or they are "traveling abroad tonight," walk away immediately. It's better to lose a deal than to lose your life savings.
